Wineries and breweries

To many to list all of them, but a few favourites are (in alphabetical order):

  • Adinfern Estate
  • Berry Farm – not technically a winery or brewery – but offers great Devonshire teas and a lovely atmosphere which the whole family can enjoy.
  • Bootleg Brewery – an old family favourite that has stood the test of time, dedicated brewers who deliver an impressive selection of beers.
  • Brookland Valley – lovely food for a special occasion
  • Brown Hill – just great wines (tastings and purchasing only)
  • Cape Mentelle - awesome for a movie, pizza and wine on the lawn in summer
  • Colonial Brewery (see details below)
  • Driftwood Estate Winery & Restaurant
  • Happs
  • Knee Deep – good outdoor sporty stuff for the kids, gourmet food and good wine
  • Laurance Wines
  • Leeuwin Estate – upmarket and very swish (meaning I wouldn’t take my kids)
  • Three Oceans Winery – great playground
  • Sandalford
  • Saracen Estate / Duckstein Brewery – fun for everyone!  Great playground, awesome food, stunning wines and good beers.
  • The Grove Winery
  • Three Oceans – Best for a rainy day with kids with indoor entertainment options, great food and good wines.
  • Vasse Felix
  • Voyager Estate– very swish for a special occasion with a degustation menu to die for
  • Watershed – good undercover playground, good food at café or restaurant
  • Xanadu – good playground, great wines, good food (gourmet)

If you are planning on having a few drinks, why not jump on a tour so no one has to drive.  Our crew have been out on tour with a couple of the local winery and brewery tours and come back raving about Wine for Dudes ( and Margies Big Day Out (

Colonial Brewery

Colonial gets a special mention as they are very close by (you could ride your bike if you don’t mind a bit of an uphill stretch) and they have really yummy food and great beers!  Nestled amongst vineyards, quaint farms and bordering the Bramley National Park, it has a large playground area, with good visibility, where parents can relax and enjoy the live entertainment on weekends. The Brewery is open from 11am to 6pm, with tasty bites being served from 11am to 5pm daily.

Margaret River Chocolate Company

One of the favourite outings for my kids is the Margaret River Chocolate Company - gain a fascinating insight into the world of chocolate, with free chocolate tastings and interactive displays, and viewing windows to watch the chocolate products being made. The Margaret River Chocolate Company makes and sells a mouth-watering range of chocolate bars, chocolate coated delights, handmade truffles, novelty chocolates, chocolate sauces and much more. Open from 9am-5pm every day of the year except Christmas Day.

Cheese and other tasty treats

There are a plethora of gourmet treats for tasting and buying.  Heading north on Bussell Highway from Wharncliffe Mill then left into Harmans Mill Road, you will pass a number of places to taste nuts, ice-cream, chocolate, liquors, berries, cheeses and other farm fresh produce.  Keep your eyes peeled and your taste buds ready!

On a Saturday morning head in early to the Farmers Market in town.  The produce is amazing and it is a great place to stock up on gourmet treats and gifts.  Most vendors offer the chance to sample before you buy, and once you taste their produce, you will find it hard to resist stocking up on the lovely cheeses, breads, relishes, olive oils and chocolates!
