Pack a picnic and head down to Rotary Park at the northern entrance to town (on Bussell Highway).  The park is on the Margaret River with bbq’s, plenty of shade and a great playground.   There is also information on the walk trails which start and finish there.

There are quieter places to swim in the river or drop a kayak in, so head down to the river mouth or to the Blackwood if you are looking for a great spot for a swim or a paddle.

Closer to Wharncliffe Mill, there are a couple of spots off Carters Road where you can drop in for some lovely scenery and a swim in the river.

Ask when you arrive about our great little secret swimming spot we have found – I can’t put it on the website (or it will no longer be a secret) but we love heading down there for a swim, a picnic or a walk, and we are often the only people there.  It is an easy 3 km cycle from Wharncliffe Mill or you can drive.  You will be sworn to secrecy though.

The beaches around here are spectacular with soft sand or rugged rock pools to explore and enjoy.  If you are planning on swimming, head to River Mouth Beach which has a lifeguard service from December through March and during the Easter long weekend.  Redgate is an awesome beach to watch the surfers and to explore the rock pools.  Scenically it is just spectacular with waves crashing over a huge set of rocks just off shore, making a thunderous boom and sending a billowing rush of water high into the air.
